Many
years ago, people in recovery with 10 or more years were referred
to as "Dinosaurs". This is the story of a "Grand
Daddy" of such dinosuars...me...Morty L.
I
was born in N.Y.C.. in 1940. I came into recovery at 40 years
old, in 1980.
I'm not the oldest guy in recovery, and I don't have the most
clean time... however the combination of my age and time is hard
to beat. Although I attend meetings in several different fellowships,
my main interest has always been Narcotics Anonymous.
I got involved with N.A. when it was just beginning in New Jersey
(1981) and have been active ever since. Along with a crew of a
dozen or so other old timers, I started the first ten meetings
in Bergen County, N.J. Over the next 24 years I've helped start
a few more including my home group in Hillsdale N.J. on Tuesday
nights.
I did not do this alone, and there were many other wonderful people
who stood by my side over the years. Some are gone now, and are
sorely missed.
I know that without recovery & 12 Step Fellowships, the Disease
of Addiction would have taken my life many years ago. It is the
people in recovery who have kept me going this last 24 years.
I'm somewhat disabled and semi-retired from work now.
This leaves me plenty of time to sponsor a half dozen guys, and
time to share my Strength, Hope and Experience with others. My
line is always open to anyone who needs me.

They used to call guys like me in the program "Dinosaurs".
Now with the help of a friend, and this wonderful medium called
the internet...
This "Dinosaur" is gonna roar!
This
website is a collection of my experences and observations about
recovery.
To navigate the site...just click
on the bar on the left that
says "Touch Here".
It'll follow you down the page, and will be there when you need
it.
Click "Music On" boxes to turn off sounds,
should they become intrusive.
As a "disclaimer" I should mention it is not the "official"
expessed opinions of any specific12 Step Organition...but solely
my own.
It's about my adventures in recovery, and the wonderful people
I've met along the way.
The acomplishments and failures, the good ideas... and the things
I wish I had never started.
I have visited many places over this land, and have attended meetings
all over...
each with thier own little flavour.
This is about the many men and women who've showed me the magic
that only happens in our rooms.
I'll feature a few of my writtings published in program literature
dating back to1985.
And I will include my story of recovery up till now, and the early
N.A. days when I was jokingly referred to as "Snortin Morton",
"Bergen King"... and "St. Morton of Garfield".
I will also include my rants & raves, ideas & opinions,
some favorite12 Step Recovery links, and other odds and ends.
Please take a minute to sign my guestbook by
clicking on the link at bottom right of
this page, and then clicking on "Post".
It would mean a lot to me, and I'd love to hear what you think
of my website!
Last but not least, this is tribute to the people I've loved and
respected...
the "fallen soldiers"...who are no longer with us, and
who continue their recovery on another plane of existence.
